Dean on the Daily Show
Posted by Josh McConaha on May 16, 2006 at 02:22 PMYouTube has the video.
Governor Dean talked about the million doors you knocked on, the message you delivered, the door hangers you hung, and the 50-State Stategy that your Democracy Bonds support. It would've been an entirely different interview if it weren't for the thousands of Democrats across the country who have taken stake in their Party and worked to take it back.

Need to do another one soon in light of the May 22, (GOP house party) they are such copykats.

All we can do is our job of working harder to get our message out!As far as the repubs they are going to have an awful time just trying to unravel from the things they have done to this country. Finally,a vast majority of Americans are on to their con game like velcro.Besides the republican philosophy is every person for themselves.I think the everyday American has finally awakened to the fact that doesn`t include them.I`m sure that goes for a lot of repub voters also.Inner club members only need apply!

Nice Doorknockers too!! Dean did well...it is nice to see him with Jon.

We're going to need more than doorknob bling! A concerted effort to capsulize the vastness of the disaster the Reps. have made of our constitution, environment, international relations, health care, education, etc. etc. and a definitive statement of actions we as Dems. are going to take to remedy all this is necessary. A good summary is found in Bush's statement at a cabinet meeting on the Patriot Act where he called the Constitution "just a goddamned piece of paper". That's our prez. The new fascist on the block.

I don't think we need to expend a great deal of energy on negative campaigning: the Administration is the victim of its own policies. What we MUST project is a POSITIVE message for the future of ALL Americans. We must be able to create a sense of hope, of optimism and common purpose. The "common purpose" thing, I realize, is much easier to mobilize in times of crisis: the Great Depression, WWII. But I am old enough -- and some of you are, too -- to remember how inspiring JFK's "Ask not what your country can do for you..." was, even though I was then much too young to join the new Peace Corps. This was, of course, before we had all learned to be cynical about government. We need to recover the ability to inspire people -- and then, of course, follow through with concrete programs. I say, forget Dick Cheney. Let's think ahead.

Could it be that the Lumpen-Proletariat Republicans have realized that they are a part of the LEFT's Working and Poor Class that is em>represented by the Dean Democratic-Wing of the Democratic Party, rather than the Republican Party that is owned and operated by and for the Elite Capitalist Class.
If the Lumpen-Proletariat Republicans do understand at long last that they are Political LEFT-Wing Democrats, rather than Political Right-Wing Republicans, it is time for a change.

A change back to Democracy.

Its always refreshing to hear the powerful voice and words of HD.
Election campaigns are community organizing efforts on the largest scale-efforts that are really all about empowerment. We must give the citizens of this country a chance to have ownership in the Democratic party if we hope to keep their support. We need to do more to raise critical consciousness about issues-we must go deeper!

our buddy Howie lied!!
"Here's the big difference between us (the Democrats) and the right-wing bill that passed the House with the President's support: This is a President who can't find a six-foot-four Saudi terrorist. How's he gonna find 12 million undocumented people and send them all back across the border? That's what he wants to do."
No where in the speech did Pres. Bush say he wanted "round em up and send em back". At least Stewart admitted to not watching the speech, but Howie...come on...your T.V. must broadcast a different speech than the rest of the populous. When will the Democrats wake up and remove this aluminum foil hat wearing loony?
With this fella spearheading the Democrats they are sure to loose. With that being said, good luck in '06.
LOL

Um, Well-Informed, he corrected himself and pointed out that it was referring to the house bill which Bush expressed support for. And what's more, he pointed out the iniquity of the Repub's proposed guest-worker program. Or do you just watch the edited versions of things on Faux News?

corrected himself on the daily show? I don't think so. Stick to the topic at hand folks. The topic of "Dean on the daily show" ...not a "correction" that took place days later, someplace else.

OT, but there's nowhere better to post this.
Just in case it never gets read, the following is a copy of the letter I wrote in response to an e-mail I recieved from this site.
I trust that each and ever Democrat will vote against Hayden's nomination? That would really make the 71% of the people in this country who dissaprove of Bush very happy. A unified and strong Democtratic party is what we need right now.
To whomever recieves this e-mail, I really must say that as a registered Democrat I am very dissapointed with what I'm seeing from the party. I'm not saying that our party must stoop to the "swift boat" tactics of the Republicans, but we could borrow a page or two.
You know why Dems haven't gained a whole lot in recent years? You know what I hear on the myriad blogs I frequent? THE DEMS HAVE NO UNIFIED MESSAGE AND THEY LOOK WEAK! The Republicans all have the same message and they repeat it over and over again. Across the board, one party united they convey their message in clear, simple messages. Most Dems I know would love to see that. I realize that as the minority party, the Dems can't get a whole lot through in the way of hearings, investigations and legislation. You CAN, however, unite and speak loudly on a daily basis. Make some noise, for crying out loud! This must happen day in and day out, not once or twice a month, not once a week, but every day.
I would also like to let you know that most people I know are furious that the Dems aren't standing together and fighting back against the President and the Republican led Congress on the NSA programs, and all the crimes they have committed and are now covering up. Why can't we see every single Dem stand up and say NO MORE! I'm speaking, also about the President's assertions that he can do whatever he wants, whenever he wants and there's nothing anyone can do.
Are the Dems afraid that if they speak out as a party united against the illegal NSA spying programs they'll look weak on terrorism and defense? Are they scared the Republicans will slap their hands for speaking? I'm going to end with this little bit and I'm writing it in caps as I cannot yell outloud in this format -
THE AMERICAN PEOPLE DID NOT ELECT A KING, THEY ELECTED A PRESIDENT. HE IS A PUBLIC SERVANT AND MUST NOT BE ALLOWED TO CONTINUE HIS TRASHING OF THE CONSTITUTION AND RUNNING OUR COUNTRY INTO THE GROUND. THE POLLS SHOW THAT THE MAJORITY OF THE AMERICAN PEOPLE DISSAPROVE OF GEORGE W. BUSH, WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU WAITING FOR? THERE ARE MILLIONS UPON MILLIONS OF PEOPLE WHO ARE WAITING AND DESPERATE TO SEE ANY KIND OF UNITY OR LEADERSHIP FROM THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY. DO NOT GIVE IN, DO NOT SHY AWAY. SPEAK FOR THE PEOPLE WHO VOTED FOR YOU AND KEEP YOU IN OFFICE. DO YOUR JOBS AND FIGHT FOR YOUR CONSTITUENCY.
In closing, I will end by saying that Joe Lieberman is no more a Democrat than Zell Miller and I do not approve of the Democratic Party supporting him in his re-election bid in any way, shape or form.
Sincerely, and desperately,
Eric

The Senate intelligence committee should ask Hayden About THIS...
The 9/11 Story That Got Away
By Rory O'Connor and William Scott Malone, AlterNet. Posted May 18, 2006.
http://www.alternet.org/story/36388/
"I had begun to hear rumors about intensified intercepts and tapping of telephones. But that was just vaguest kind of rumors in the street, indicators … I remember the weekend before July 4, 2001, in particular, because for some reason the people who were worried about Al Qaida believed that was the weekend that there was going to be an attack on the United States or on a major American target somewhere. It was going to be a large, well-coordinated attack. Because of the July 4 holiday, this was an ideal opportunistic target and date for Al Qaida.
My sources also told me at that time that there had been a lot of chatter overheard -- I didn't know specifically what that meant -- but a lot of talk about an impending attack at one time or another. And the intelligence community seemed to believe that at least a part of the attack was going to come on July 4. So I remember that, for a lot of my sources, this was going to be a 'lost' weekend. Everybody was going to be working; nobody was going to take time off. And that was bad news for me, because it meant I was also going to be on stand-by, and I would be working too.
"I was in New York, but I remember coming down to D.C. one day that weekend, just to be around in case something happened … Misery loves company, is how I would put it. If it were going to be a stress-filled weekend, it was better to do it together. It also meant I wouldn't have trouble tracking people down -- or as much trouble -- because as you know, some of these people can be very elusive.
"The people in the counter-terrorism (CT) office were very worried about attacks here in the United States, and that was, it struck me, another debate in the intelligence community. Because a lot of intelligence people did not believe that Al Qaida had the ability to strike within the United States. The CT people thought they were wrong. But I got the sense at that time that the counter-terrorism people in the White House were viewed as extremist on these views.
"Everyone in Washington was very spun-up in the CT world at that time. I think everybody knew that an attack was coming -- everyone who followed this. But you know you can only 'cry wolf' within a newspaper or, I imagine, within an intelligence agency, so many times before people start saying there he goes -- or there she goes -- again!
"Even that weekend, there was lot else going on. There was always a lot going on at the White House, so to a certain extent, there was that kind of 'cry wolf' problem. But I got the sense that part of the reason that I was being told of what was going on was that the people in counter-terrorism were trying to get the word to the president or the senior officials through the press, because they were not able to get listened to themselves.
"Sometimes, you wonder about why people tell you things and why people … we always wonder why people leak things, but that's a very common motivation in Washington.

I loved how Governor Dean handled himself on the Daily Show with Jon Stewart.Kudos! His honesty with how a lot of the established people in the Democratic Party wanting to still concentrate on a limited amount of states and write off the rest. That`s exactly the dynamic that has put the party in the quagmire it`s in!If they don`t care for it they should at least stop resisting it!Right now people in our party who are fighting it remind me of people fighting for a life preserver on the titanic.Obviously something is clicking with Democrats all over.Maybe it`s a little different structure? My question is what do we have to lose? For once I see Democrats wanting to get out a consistant message about what we stand for!Maybe they prefer the repubs telling the country what that is.

Pennsylvania had the RNC stick its nose in on the primary elections and it appears that the DNC has stuck its nose in in Lousiana to knock of Nagin.
Why don't the national Parties keep their nose out of the primaries and let the voters pick the candidates? That's the way it is supposee to work.
-----------------------------------------
DEMOCRATIC NATIONAL COMMITTEE WORKED TO DEFEAT NAGIN
**Exclusive**
The Democratic National Committee (DNC) secretly placed political operatives in the city of New Orleans to work against the reelection efforts of incumbent Democrat Mayor Ray Nagin, the DRUDGE REPORT has learned.
DNC Chairman Howard Dean made the decision himself to back mayoral candidate and sitting Lieutenant Governor Mitch Landrieu (D-LA), sources reveal.
Dean came to the decision to back the white challenger, over the African-American incumbent Nagin, despite concerns amongst senior black officials in the Party that the DNC should stay neutral.
The DNC teams actively worked to defeat Nagin under the auspice of the committee's voting rights program.
The party's field efforts also coincided with a national effort by Democrat contributors to support Landrieu.
Landrieu had outraised Nagin by a wide margin - $3.3 million to $541,980.
Preliminary campaign finance reports indicate many of Landrieu’s contributions came from out of state white Democrat leaders and financiers, including a $1,000 contribution from Sen. Ben Nelson's (D-NE) PAC.
The defeat of Mitch Landrieu is the latest setback for Dean's often criticized field operation.
In his victory speech late Saturday night, Nagin praised President Bush.
"You and I have probably been the most vilified politicians in the country. But I want to thank you for moving that promise that you made in Jackson Square forward," Nagin said.

We will got no unified Democrat party as long as the DNC coddles the Republi-lites, who run as Democrats and vote as Republicans.
As for the lumpy-proletariats, they are just plain fed up with both parties, and always point out to me how the sell-outs in the Democrat party aren't any different from the Republicans, and then proceed to tar all Democrats with the same brush.
There is a strong trend in the country toward voting third party. This is the 500lb gorilla in the living room that the DNC seems to be ignoring and he's growing everytime the Democrats in Congress roll over and give up withour a fight, or the sell-outs refuse to support the Democrats in the Congress who ARE trying to do something.
Wake up and smell the gorilla poop, guys!

While a long time Deaniac and Democrat I believe that hanging door flyers and such is totally useless unless the party actually, on a national level as well as local, stands up and fights this madness instead of acting like all of this insane propaganda issued by both parties is valid. The daily doses of misinformation is really getting me down. As long as Democrats go along with this in the name of some insane need for SECURITY than I feel why vote for them. Why is any reasonable response to the truly terrifing military/corporate take over of our democracy marginalized by the Democrats including the DNC? I worked hard for Kerry and Dean and was constantly told by nonregestered voters there is no difference. Why have I never heard a 'prominent' Democrat stand up and say this is just a lie, I won't vote for it? I can only contend that they basically have the same agenda as Republicans, preserving the status quo, through fear and greed, for the money/military/corporations. Enough, being progressive should offer something that at least addresses the real issues. We can knock on doors all we want but in order to get any change we need to offer some not just 'real security' Quit treating the electorate as though were mentally deficient and cowardly and realize that the votes our out there if you offer something other than this, we can do better, stupidity.

Thomas G - Great analysis of the "Lumpen Proles"/Right wingers really being Dems. I assume you're talking about POOR Repubs? Well, sadly, don't get your hopes up about most of 'em realizing ANYTHING of substance, since their educational level is slightly above that of my housecat's! No...the Repos have spent such effort and time gutting public education that most Americans can't even READ! That's why charter schools are filled with Dems and Liberals (like my kid)!! They get a marginally better education w/o us spending a fortune or having them brainwashed by Christian fundies.
IMO, sadly, the LumpenProle/Wingers will continue to swallow whatever lies and distortions King George dishes out. To paraphrase Marie Antoinette, another heartless monarch: "Let them eat Big Macs"!
