Democrats Urge GOP Congress To Act On Pension Bill
February 22, 2006With America's pensions under attack, Congress is considering bi-partisan pension reform. The legislation was bottled up last year when Washington Republicans tried to couple common-sense pension reform with President Bush's scheme to privatize Social Security. [Boston Globe, 6/19/05] Now that this radical plan has been abandoned, it is time for Republicans in the Senate to clear away any remaining obstacles and let this legislation move forward. Specifically, Republicans must end their opposition to a reasonable compromise on the make-up of the conference committee.
"Democrats support Leader Reid's call for quick action so that this important bill can move to conference, and one of the most pressing concerns of American workers and their families can be addressed," said Democratic National Committee Communications Director Karen Finney. "Democrats remain committed to America's working families and to ensuring retirement security for all Americans."
